Renaud Lavillenie, the current world leader in the Pole Vault, has confirmed his participation at the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme in Brussels, the final meeting of the 2013 IAAF Diamond League.

The 26-year-old from France is the only athlete in the world this year to have broken six metres.

On 6 September, spectators at the King Baudouin stadium in the Belgian capital will have the privilege to watch the Olympic Pole Vault champion jump.

Owner of the best six vaults in the world this year, Lavillenie is highly favoured to win the gold medal at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow that are due to start on 10 August.

Last weekend Lavillenie proved his great shape when winning at the London Diamond League meeting with a 6.02m clearance, breaking his own French outdoor record. Lavillenie then raised the bar to 6.16m but failed to break Sergey Bubka’s World record.

The Belgacom Memorial Van Damme is familiar territory for Lavillenie. “Already I have twice finished second at Brussels,” he said. “This year there is no other option for me but to win!”
