London 2012 Olympic Games Pole Vault gold medallist Renaud Lavillenie will compete at Athletissima 2013, an IAAF Diamond League meeting, in Lausanne’s Pontaise Stadium on 4 July, the meeting organisers announced on Monday (25).

Lavillenie won his third consecutive European indoor title in Gothenburg earlier this month, clearing 6.01m and only just narrowly failing at 6.07m, a reigning supreme this winter with nine straight wins indoors.

In addition to his Olympic title last summer, he has also won at the last two European Athletics Championships. The dynamic and charismatic Flying Frenchman has also won the Athletissima event in the past three years, his best result being when he went over5.85m in 2010.

He has as his target the meeting record of 5.91m, held by American vaulter Brad Walker since 2007.

This 38th edition of the Athletissima meeting will also feature the best Swiss athletes, including the women’s 4x100m Relay team, national Long Jump record holder Irene Pusterla and the talented sprinter Lea Sprunger, who hails from the Lausanne area.
