“Hello fans! The month of June came and went so quickly.

“I must say it was indeed a trying month for me having to battle with a nagging hamstring injury.  A lot of questions plagued my mind during this month, like when I was going to be completely healthy again, will I be able to finish the season or will I get the chance to represent my country this year?

“Injuries in the sport are very unpredictable. After thinking that all of the injuries were done with, it turned out I was unable to complete my event at the adidas Grand Prix meet in New York, which was an IAAF Diamond League meeting and so very important to me.

“I thank God that I was able to walk away from that meet with minor pains. Nevertheless, I was very disappointed as adidas is my apparel sponsor so I really wanted to do well there. During my New York stop, I also did some promotional work for adidas.

“Prior to the New York meet, I had competed in the 400m in the British Virgin Islands. Taking the boat to and from was, let’s just say, an experience. I finished third in my race there.

“Later in the month I competed at our senior nationals in Nassau, in the 400m, which is my specialty.  I wanted to take my time with the race to see where I was with the injury.  At least, the race went according to plan (she won in a season’s best of 51.86) and I am currently getting back into shape for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

“I came out as the 2014 champion and I was just glad to be able to compete in the front of my home crowd once again having missed the chance at the inaugural IAAF World Relays last month.

“I also enjoyed spending that time home with my family, as I always do. My family and I went to the beach and had a nice day of relaxation.

“We ate conch salad and laughed with one another as we caught up with old times.  They are a cheerful bunch and they mean the world to me. We are a close knitted group and I just love them.

“It’s on to Europe now for my first ever outdoor race as a professional. I am looking forward to it.

“Shaunae”
