Croatia’s Blanka Vlasic, with two World titles each both indoors and outdoors, and the second best high jumper in history, will return to competition at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in New York on 25 May, after not competing in 2012 due to injury.

“I am excited and eager to start competing again,” said Vlasic, speaking from her hometown of Split.

“It has now been 14 months since I had my foot surgery. I had a few setbacks but, in the last six months, my rehab and training have gone really well. It is with great motivation I am able to do what I love the most, to compete in the big meets.

“I have been able to recover and prepare myself with good and careful training and I really look forward to starting up at the adidas Grand Prix meeting in NYC on 25 May.”

Vlasic, 29, made her US debut at the adidas Grand Prix in 2011, but underwent surgery to repair her Achilles tendon in January 2012, but there were subsequent complications that included a bacterial infection.

In 2010, Vlašić was undefeated in in Diamond League competition and was named the World Athlete of the Year.

Between 24 June, 2007 and 23 August, 2008 she was undefeated in 34 meetings. Her personal best of 2.08m, set in 2009, is only one centimetre off Stefka Kostadinova’s 24-year-old World record.
