Many of Europe’s top combined events exponents will be making their way to the Austrian city of Gotzis for the 40th anniversary edition of the famous Hypo meeting, part of the 2014 IAAF Combined Events Challenge, which commences on 31 May.

Belarus’ Andrei Krauchanka, Ukraine’s Oleksiy Kasyanov and Russia’s Ilya Shkurenev are three of the biggest names to have been added in the latest announcement by the event organisers on Monday (19).

Krauchanka, 28, was the 2013 IAAF Combined Events Challenge mens winner and although he had a disappointing decathlon at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow last August, his pedigree is impressive. He was the 2008 Olympic decathlon silver medallist, and most recently took the heptathlon silver medal at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships.

Kasyanov, also 28, took the decathlon silver medal at the 2012 European Championships and the heptathlon silver medal at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships.

Shkurenev, 23, finished one place behind Kasyanov in Helsinki two years ago when he took the decathlon bronze medal at the 2012 European Championships.

The top women’s names added to the heptathlon were Latvia’s talented 21-year-old European silver medallist Laura Ikauniece and Belarus’ European indoor pentathlon silver medallist Yana Maksimava.
