Poland’s world hammer champions Pawel Fajdek and Anita Wlodarczyk will compete at the 55th Ostrava Golden Spike meeting on 19 May, organisers of the IAAF World Challenge meeting announced.

The meeting is also the fourth leg of the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge and, as usual, the event will be staged one day before the main programme.

Fajdek and Wlodarczyk both won the challenge in 2015 and the meeting organisers are hoping they will be in the type of form that could see them attack the current meeting records, which were both set in 2012 and belong to Hungary’s Krisztian Pars with 82.28m and Germany’s Betty Heidler with 78.07m.

The Ostrava organisers also confirmed the appearance a trio of Czech stars to ensure local interest: 2013 javelin world champion Vitezslav Vesely, world indoor 1500m silver medallist Jakub Holusa and two-time world indoor 400m champion Pavel Maslak.
