With a dominating run, Aleksandra Fedoriva of Russia led a 1-2 finish for Team Europe in the women’s 200m.
With a clear lead heading into the straight the Russian stopped the clock in 22.86 to win by more than half a second. It was the second slowest time ever in this competition, but also one of the largest margins of victory in the event.
“It’s very important that I didn’t make the same mistake I made in Barcelona,” said Fedoriva, who took bronze at the European Championships earlier this summer. “I had very good and intense training between Stockholm and brussels to prolong the season until Split.” That decision paid with the 21-year-old collecting the biggest accolade of her career since her 4x400m Olympic Relay gold.
Elizaveta Bryzhina of Ukraine, the 20-year-old European silver medallist, was a distant second in 22.37 to secure maximum points for team Europe.
Cydonie Mothersill of Cayman Islands of Connie Moore of the US were next across the line, clocking 22.31 and 23.52 respectively.
