Threetime Commonwealth champion Debbie Ferguson won today’s 200m race in 22.49 after anchoring the America’s 4x100m relay team to victory last night.

Double Asia champion and Olympic bronze medallist Susanthika Jayasinghe had the best start of the field but it was Ferguson who ran the best curb and entered the home straight slightly in the lead.

After a terrible start and a mediocre bend, European champion Muriel Hurtis (FRA) had an impressive finish and closed a five-metre gap to claim second in 22.78.

Double African champion Myriam Leonie finished third in a season best of 22.81 while Jayasinghe had to content with fourth in 22.82 after her third place finish last night in the 100m.

Jayasinghe has scored a total 13 points in two days for the Asian team who after the 200m lied seventh with 61 points.
