The FBK Games, the World Athletics Continental Tour gold meeting scheduled for 1 June in the Dutch city of Hengelo, has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, organisers announced today.

Given the present circumstances around the world, and with the health of athletes, fans and volunteers as the utmost priority, the only responsible decision was to cancel the meeting, said Meeting Director Ellen van Langen

“It’s with a heavy heart that we had to take this decision," van Langen said. "Together with everyone else we have an obligation to stop this virus and therefore this is the only right thing to do.

"We have looked at opportunities to organise the event at a later date this year, but due to an overloaded sports calender later in the fall it proved impossible to organise an event at the level that we want to give to our fans and the athletes."

Van Langen said the next edition will take place on 6 June 2021.

Jos Hermens, Director of Global Sports Communication who organises the meeting, added: “Not just for us, but it’s also a pity for all the athletes who love coming to the FBK Games. But there are more important things than sports going on in the world right now. Let’s make sure together that we get this virus under control. Sport will find its way back in the everyday life in our society.”
