The Racers Grand Prix, the World Athletics Continental Tour gold meeting scheduled for 13 June in Kingston, has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, organisers announced today.

A postponement was announced on 16 April, citing the various travel restrictions enacted by Jamaica and other countries, along with strict social distancing policies already in the place. Organisers hoped that the meeting could be rescheduled for the second half of August, but global trends ultimately forced its cancellation.

“We are deeply disappointed to announce that the 2020 staging of the meet has been cancelled,” said Glen Mills, Chairman of the Racers Grand Prix Organising Committee. “Especially after receiving such a great commendation from World Athletics. However, for the health and safety of all participants and stakeholders, we must look ahead to 2021 for the return of Racers Grand Prix.

"Hopefully, by then, we will have sustainable engagement protocols for large sporting events in light of COVID-19.”

Discussions have begun to secure a date for 2021.
