With organisation of the largest athletics event in Serbia – the World Athletics Indoor Championships Belgrade 22 – in full swing, representatives of World Athletics recently visited Belgrade.

The delegation of World Athletics included 30 members and they first visited the Stark Arena, which will host the action from 18-20 March. After a detailed analysis of the Arena, the talks continued at the Hyatt Hotel.

Representatives of the local organising committee explained preparation workflows for the biggest athletics event ever held in our capital. Top priority and major issues of the organisation have been resolved, guidelines for continuation have been given, and after three working days in Belgrade, the guests, satisfied with both the visit and the work that has been done, departed with the desire to return to Belgrade as soon as possible and looking forward to the majestic grand opening of the World Athletics Indoor Championships Belgrade 22.

"Managers of all sectors – the team of professionals working in the organisation of WIC Belgrade 22 – presented to World Athletics representatives the work done so far and upon that they all visited the Stark Arena, where the World Athletics Indoor Championships will be held," said the president of the local organising committee, Slobodan Brankovic.

"With very few suggestions on the part of the World Athletics team, we concluded that everything has been going according to plan. A lot of work awaits us in the upcoming period, but we have shown that we have done more than what was expected from us so far. The visit of World Athletics managers and their support and suggestions are of great importance for future work."

After the successfully organised SPAR European Cross Country Championships in 2013 and the European Indoor Championships in 2017, as well as numerous Balkan championships, Belgrade has got the opportunity to prove itself as a great host once again.

"This was the first official visit of World Athletics, which was supposed to happen last year. Unfortunately, for all known reasons, they came to Belgrade now, only a mere six months before the event. According to Jakob Larsen, director of competitions and events at World Athletics, the organisation of this three-day visit was flawless, and one of the best he attended," concluded Predrag Momirovic, director of the SP Athletics 2022 Company.

"The feedback after the visit we received from World Athletics is more than commendable, both about what the local organising committee has done so far, and about the expertise and commitment of the entire team. The most important thing is that we have received confirmation that we are on the right path to organising one of the best World Athletics Indoor Championships."
