Niklas Kaul climbed to number two on the world youth all-time list with a monster 83.94m throw in Halle in May and many will be keen to see how the 17-year-old can perform in Cali.

The gifted German, also the leading under-18 athlete in the world in the decathlon this year, has not managed one other throw beyond 80 metres but clearly has the ability to produce something special.

Other dangers could be Uzbekistan’s Asian youth champion Vladislav Palyunin (79.11m), Australia’s Conor Warren (77.18m) and Latvia’s Patriks Gailums (77.15m).

The Indian duo, Mohd Hadish (75.52m) and Abhishek Drall (75.26m), who finished second and third at the Asian Youth Championships, are other names which should be factored into the medal equation.
