In a field of considerable depth, Czech Republic’s Michaela Hruba stands out as the favourite.

Last summer, at the age of just 16, Hruba won the silver medal at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, clearing 1.91m in the final.

Since then Hruba has continued to impress, also clearing 1.91m at the European Indoor Championships in Prague earlier this year. And last month, the 17-year-old showed she is ready to go for gold in Cali when clearing 1.90m at an international match in Trnava, Slovakia.

The Czech teenager will have to be on her top form though.

Germany’s Mona Gottschammer cleared 1.86m last month while Russia’s Alisa Presnyakova and Tatyana Ermachenkova, who both cleared 1.84m in Smolensk a fortnight ago, are also medal contenders in what should be a competition loaded with quality.
