South Africa’s Simone du Toit achieved the best youth performance of the year in the third round to add a gold medal to the discus silver she won yesterday.
The 16-year-old dominated the competition with six throws of 15.72m or more.
China’s Bo Li was second with 15.92m, the only other athlete to better Du Toit’s worst throw. Australia’s Dani Samuels, the discus winner, was third with 15.53m.
Du Toit’s performance added 29 centimetres to her best, while the leading four athletes, including fourth-placed Chile’s Natalia Duco (14.44m) also threw further than ever before.
