One youth performance stood out in particular at the International Meeting in Trento, Italy on May 15th: Sicilian Vincenza Calì (1983) ran 200m in 24.45 (+0.06). In Giulianova on April 15th Maria Laura Montelpare (1982) threw the 4kg hammer to 50.35. During an international junior walk meeting in Catania, 29-30 May, several under 18 athletes obtained promising results. Amongst the women at 5km on a track Beatriz Pascual ESP (1982) 24:23 came fourth followed by Melissa Rodriguez FRA (1982) who came fifth with 24:30. In the junior men’s competition at 10km on the road, Viktor Burayev RUS (1982) came third with 42:57, Aleksandr Strokov RUS (1982) fourth with 43:56 and in 12th place Paul Gassebner ITA (1982) with 45:15.
