The boys' two-lap event is expected to evolve into another battle of the east Africans.

The Ethiopian team will be carried by Tolesa Bodena, the fastest U18 boy in the world this year (1:47.20), and Melese Nberet (1:48.17).

They are unlikely to have it all their own way, however, with the Kenyan squad represented by Japheth Kibiwott Toroitich and Noah Kiprono, who both boast career bests of 1:47.81.

Having won the 800m title at the last three editions of the biennial championships, the hosts will be eager to extend their unbeaten streak.

As the only four boys in the entry lists to have dipped under 1:49.00, the East African quartet are expected to battle it out between them for the title.
