Sticking with tradition, the middle-distance race over the barriers is again tipped to be an all-east African affair.

With African countries having swept the podium at the past four editions of the biennial championships, Kenya and Ethiopia should again lead the charge.

After winning the past three world U18 titles in the discipline, the host nation will again carry the favourites' tag into the final. They will be represented by Caren Chebet (6:19.50) and Mercy Chepkirui (6:19.70), the two fastest U18 girls in the world this season.

They will face an anticipated battle, however, from the Ethiopian duo of Ethlemahu Sintayehu Dessi (6:30.84) and Betelihem Mulat Desta (6:33.35) who should put up a fight for the podium places.

European youth champion Anna Mark Helwigh will also be hoping to get among the medals.
