Great Britain’s Morgan Lake topped the tables in the heptathlon high jump with a 1.94m clearance, the best mark ever by a junior heptathlete and a national junior record.
The only athlete over 1.85m, the 17-year-old Briton cleared again at 1.88m and 1.91m, both on her first attempts, then 1.94m on her second attempt to earn 1158 points and take the overall lead with 2096 points.
Lake attempted 1.97m, which would have been a world youth record and a British senior record, but wasn’t able to make that height.
Yorgelis Rodriguez’s best clearance at 1.82m gave her 1003 points and moved the Cuban defending champion to third place with 1956 points. Third place in the high jump went to Russia’s Mariia Pavlova, also at 1.82m; she now holds fourth overall with 1944 points.
The Netherlands’ 100m hurdles winner Nadine Visser cleared 1.73m for 891 points, leaving her second overall with 1980 points.
