World Athletics Heritage Plaque

This is a location-based recognition which highlights, celebrates and links together iconic and historic athletics competitions, careers, performances, cities, venues, landmarks and culture around the world.

The World Athletics Heritage Plaque is awarded for “an outstanding contribution to the worldwide history and development of the sport of track & field athletics and of out of stadia athletics disciplines such as cross country, mountain, road, trail and ultra-running, and race walking.”

Purrier smashes North American indoor mile record at Millrose Games

World 5000m finalist Elle Purrier provided the unexpected highlight of the Millrose Games in New York on Saturday (8), winning the women’s Wanamaker Mile in a North American indoor record of 4:16.85, the second-fastest indoor performance in history.

Mahuchikh tops 2.02m world U20 indoor record in Karlsruhe

For the second time in three competitions this year, Yaroslava Mahuchikh broke the world U20 indoor high jump record with a 2.02m* leap to highlight the Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe on Friday (31).

It is just over a year now since World Athletics President Sebastian Coe announced the creation of the World Athletics Heritage Plaque. This location-based award honours outstanding contributions to the worldwide history and development of athletics.
