First athlete to hold world records in both horizontal jumps.

Long jump world record (7.98m) set in Meiji Jingu stadium on 27 October 1931

Chūhei Nambu is he first and to date only man to hold the world record in both the long jump and the triple jump. In 1931 he set the world long jump record, just 2cm off 8 metres which was to remain the Asian record until 1970. At the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games after a bronze in the long jump, Nambu took the triple jump title with a world record of 15.72m in the fifth round. He held both world records until 1935. A fine sprinter he set the Japanese 100m in 1931.
