Heroes' Square, Andrássy Avenue, Chain Bridge, Buda Castle Tunnel, St. Stephen’s Basilica - just a few of the historic landmarks that will be on display for participants and spectators of the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 marathon races on site and around the world via television coverage. In total, one billion people are expected to watch the World Championships and tens of millions will watch the world's best marathon runners race through the historic UNESCO World Heritage sites in Budapest on 26 and 27 August.

"The best runners in the world will compete in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, in a historic setting. Witness the Wonder! - is our motto, and there's no question that with this route, you're guaranteed to see the wonder during the marathon. The World Championships have a very important goal: to show Hungary and the Hungarian capital to the world. We are working to help as many people as possible discover that there is a safe, accessible, beautiful and welcoming country at the heart of Europe." - said Balázs Németh, CEO of local organising committee of WCH Budapest 23.

Competitors will run four laps on the 10-kilometre course, crossing the Chain Bridge 8 times and the Tunnel 4 times under Buda Castle. Meanwhile the panoramic view of Buda, the Pest quay, Elisabeth Square, the Opera House and the many squares and monuments of the city centre will become visible.
