Vitaliy Zhuk produced a strong second-day performance at the European Combined Events Team Championships on Sunday (7) to win the decathlon at the IAAF Combined Events Challenge meeting with 8237 while Ukraine’s Daryna Sloboda maintained her overnight lead to win the heptathlon with 6165.
Belgian record-holders Hans van Alphen and Nafissatou Thiam will return to the Hypo-Meeting in Gotzis, the site of their PBs, to take on some of the best all-round athletes in the world at the IAAF Combined Events Challenge meeting on 30-31 May.

Jiri Sykora of the Czech Republic technically moved into first place (although he had never knowingly ceased to be in that position despite the revision of his long jump mark coming approximately two hours after the shot put finishing) by being the best man in the shot put with his second effort of 15.50m, only 16 centimetres shy of his personal best.
Following the revision of Jiri Sykora’s second-round mark of 7.35m, which was originally listed as 7.98m and corrected during the lunchtime break between the shot put and high jump, Belarusian Yury Yaremich led proceedings with an impressive 7.80m with a tail wind of 2.1m/s, the longest jump ever produced by a decathlete in the history of the IAAF World Junior Championships.
Russia may have won the overall title at the European Cup Combined Events Super League in the Polish city of Torun, but the individual victories in the IAAF Combined Events Challenge meeting went to Dutch pair Nadine Broersen and Eelco Sintnicolaas on Saturday and Sunday (6-7).
