Three-time Commonwealth champion Moses Kipsiro was the biggest casualty at the Ugandan Cross Country Championships in Jinja on Saturday (6) as the provisional team was selected for next month’s African Cross Country Championships in Cameroon.
Just like the senior men’s race two years ago, which produced more than its fair share of surprises, the event at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, Guiyang 2015 is shaping up to be more than a straight-forward contest between Ethiopia and Kenya.
Despite having two top-five finishers in the senior men’s race in 2013 – more than any other nation – Uganda missed out on a medal at the last championships. But the Ugandan team for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, Guiyang 2015 looks formidable.
World junior mountain-running champion Phillip Kipyeko convincingly outwitted defending champion Moses Kipsiro at the National Cross Country Championships in the Eastern Town of Jinja on Saturday (14).
Uganda may have dominated the medal table but the star of the show at the the 30th edition of the World Mountain Running Championships was Austria’s Andrea Mayr who became the first runner to clinch five world titles in the discipline when she won in Casette di Massa, Italy, on Sunday (14).
