Competing in an inter-collegiate meet between the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) last weekend, freshman Angela Williams, a member of the Women of Troy track team won the 100m with a stunning, though wind-aided 11.01 (+3.7m/s).

This makes her one of the fastest female US sprinters of 1999 and she now also has under her belt the three fastest times in the nation under any conditions (10.96w, 11.01w and 11.08).

Her promise was already shown at the IAAF World Junior Championships in 1998 where she took the silver medal with 11.27 behind university team mate Shakedia Jones (USA), who won the race with 11.19.

Angela was ranked at No. 8 in Track & Field News' 1998 U.S. Rankings. At Chino High School in California, she established herself as the nation's fastest female high school track athlete in history with a blistering 11.11 in the 100m at the 1998 National Junior Championships in Edwardsville.

In her third consecutive chase for the title, she thrashed the 22-year-old "record" of 11.13 set by Chandra Cheeseborough in 1976, setting her official personal best performance. As a junior she clocked a 10.98w, becoming the first high school girl to break the 11-second barrier under any conditions.

Named Track & Field News High School Women Athlete of the Year in 1997 and 1998, she is only the second woman to have been selected twice unanimously (Marion Jones was the other unanimous pick). She is also reigning Pan-American Junior Champion
