Death of IAAF athletes' representative Zane Branson

The IAAF has received the sad news of the death of IAAF athletes' representative Zane Branson on Saturday (25).

Branson, 57, passed away on Saturday morning in the Kenyan town of Iten after collapsing while walking en route to monitoring a training run by some of his athletes.

Branson was the managing director of the Prague-based International Athletics Consultancy and represented many well-known distance runners, particularly from Kenya, including Patrick Makau, Emily Chebet, Joyce Chepkirui and Wilson Chebet.

He attended East Tennessee State University in the late 1970s, where he was a runner on their successful university team which won conference titles, and later started managing athletes in the early 1990, becoming highly respected by runners and business associates alike.

According to the International Athletics Consultancy, he will be buried in Kenya although the details are still to be confirmed.

The IAAF sends its deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
