IAAF/AI Bank World Half Marathon Championships Copenhagen 2014 - progress report

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) from the IAAF/AI Bank World Half Marathon Championships Copenhagen 2014 gave a progress report to the IAAF Council on Thursday (14).

The LOC confirmed that 30,000 people had entered the mass participation race which will be held as part of the men's championship race, which will start and finish in front of the Danish parliament.

They are optimistic that Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, first in line to the Danish thrown, will compete in the event on 29 March 2014.

Crown Prince Frederik, a member of the International Olympic Committee, is a keen runner and has competed in marathons in various countries, with a personal best of just outside three hours.

Enhancing the spectacle for all runners, the LOC announced that there would be 40 bands along the course with the entertainment programme starting nearly three hours before the gun went for the first race.

Approximately 1500 volunteers are being recruited and a wide-scale billboard advertising campaign has been underway for some time in Copenhagen, including a massive display in the centre of the city.

The LOC also outlined various logistical matters and the progress being made working with the city authorities and public institutions.
