Sabani, the double gold medallist (200-400) from Saudi Arabia in the Gulf confederation junior championships at Qatif, brought his country its first gold at the Asian junior championships in Jakarta on Saturday (14 Jun).

Al-Sabani was an important member of the Arab Kingdom's victorious 4x400 relay quartet in both Asian outdoor (2006) and indoor (2008) games held at Doha, Qatar.

He ran a splendid run on the home straight to outclass You Cheng from China in the junior men's 400m in 46.33 secs.

Charles Koech took the metric mile in 3:48.46. He ran a tactical race wherein Hamed Noor (Saudi Arabia) gave some initial challenge. Koech was the Asian Indoor Games champion over 3000m.

The women's race saw Liu Fang, silver medallist in the last edition at Macau 2006, in a good fight from India's upcoming distance star S.R. Bindu. Bindu clocked a personal best 4:29.18. However it was not enough for the gold as the experienced Chinese edged past the Indian to win the title in 4:28.50. Fang clocked a career best of 4:14.54 while finished third at this year's Good Luck Beijing international meeting at the Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium.

In the junior men's 110m Hurdles, Ko Wen-Ting of Chinese Taipei set a new meet mark (13.65) in the heats and started favourite for the title. However, he was beaten at the tape by Japan's Jin Nakamura 13.69 to 13.70 secs.
