All doping controls return negative results at IAAF World Cup

MonteCarloThe IAAF completed a large antidoping programme at the 10th IAAF World Cup in Athletics, Athens, Greece (16 – 17 September 2006) with a total of 98 athletes tested either before or during the competition.

This testing included 33 blood screens taken prior to the competition and 64 tests during the competition (1 pre-competition and 29 in-competition samples were tested for EPO). As usual, all information collected from the blood screening will be added to the IAAF database to aid in the individual profiling of athlete blood parameters.

With 409 athletes competing during the weekend, these figures mean that approximately 24% of all competitors were tested.

“I am delighted that yet another of the IAAF World Athletics Series events has registered a complete set of negative test results. With our vigorous anti-doping campaign we will continue to fight for clean competition throughout our sport,” said IAAF President Lamine Diack in response to the news.
