Four time 110m Hurdles World champion and three-time winner of the World Athletics Final, Allen Johnson donated his competition spikes to the IAAF’s Athletics for a Better World humanitarian project.
Johnson who also won the 1996 Olympic Games handed the spikes he wore to win the 2005 World Athletics Final in a competition record 13.09.
A long-time member of the athletics family, Johnson was eager to support the IAAF’s humanitarian project since its creation.
“I wanted to donate my Helsinki spikes but I didn’t win there so I decided to donate an item that has won something,” said Johnson after his race in Monaco.
Johnson’s spikes are only the latest of a number of prestigious items which the IAAF will soon auction on its website.
All profits made with the auction of the 34-year-old’s autographed shoes will be donated to the United Nations Associations: FAO, UNICEF and WFP.
