Badji and Thiam ensure a show – Senegalese Champs

Ndiss Kaba Badji  and Amy Mbacké Thiam were the big attractions of 49th edition of the Senegalese championships which took place on 27 and 28 June at the stadium Iba Mar Diop in Dakar.

Ndiss Kaba Badji expanded his honours list by taking the Long Jump title with a leap of 8.03m, the best performance overall of the championship by a male athlete.

The best female performance was accomplished by Amy Mbacké Thiam who won the 400m easily in 52.98sec.

An absentee from Dakar since her suspension in 2007, the 2001 World champion was the main draw for the public who greeted her with wide applauseat the end of the race.

Thiam who ran 50.86, on 25 June in Milan, confirmed that she intends to compete for a place in the final at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Berlin, Germany (15 – 23 August).
