He won the Pan American Juniors in 1993, the Goodwill Games in 2001 and the NCAA in 1997. He won the US title in 2000 with 22.12, longest put in the world for four years, and merit ranked no 1 in the world for the season. Pre-2000 best was 20.64 (99). Quite short (1.83) for a leading shot putter. Topped 2001 world indoor list with 21.40. Was college footballer and wrestler in high school. Coached by Commonwealth discus champion Robert Weir (GBR).
