Peter Biwott of Kenya and Ethiopian Sisay Measo took top honours at the 6th Alexander the Great Marathon in Thessaloniki, Greece, on Sunday (10).

Biwott clocked 2:13:12 to take the men's title at the IAAF Bronze Label Road Race, comfortably ahead of compatriot Isaiah Kosgei, who clocked 2:13:49. Benazzouz Slimani of Morocco was well back in third, clocking 2:14:37, to round out the podium.

Measo, the winner of the 2005 Athens Marathon, clocked 2:40:41 to win the women's race by more than five minutes, improving significantly on her sixth place finish at this race one year ago. Alena Vinitskaya or Belarus was a distant second clocking 2:45:43. No other woman finished under 3:16.

The course records, 2:11:37 for the men, set by Moses Arusei of Kenya in 2006, and the women's of 2:28:22 held by Souad Ait Salem of Algeria since 2006, were never under threat.
