Australian world 400m champion Cathy Freeman has accepted an invitation from top American coach Tom Tellez to train in Texas.

Tellez, who is best known as the coach of Carl Lewis, made an open invitation to a number of Australian athletes , following a training school he ran in Australia for elite Australian athletes. Freeman has now decided to take up the invitation and is likely to spend the majority of her time between now and the 2000 Olympics living and training out of Australia.

One of the reasons cited by Freeman's manager, Nick Bideau, is the amount of media pressure supported by the Aboriginal athlete. When not training in Houston, Cathy will spend a lot of her time in a home she has owned since 1995 in London.
