Charmaine Crooks, 4x400m silver medallist of the 1984 Olympic Games has been nominated member of the IOC Ethics Commission

Charmaine Crooks, silver medallist with the 4x400m Canadian relay team at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games and 7th in the individual 400m race with 50.45 has been invited to join the IOC Ethics Commission.

The Commission, which is composed of 8 members, was created during the 108th IOC session in Lausanne last March. The Ethics Commission would be responsible for drawing up a new framework of principles and rules, and ensure that they are followed and respected by all members of the IOC family.

The nomination of Ms Crooks is high recognition not only of her exceptional athletics career – gold medallist at the Commonwealth and Pan American Games, participation in five Olympics – but also of her exemplar behaviour in both her sport and professional lives. Charmaine Crooks, who lives in Vancouver (CAN) is a renowned TV presenter and has hosted the World Athletics Gala on several occasions.

IOC Member Judge Kèba Mbaye (Senegal) will head the new Commission. In addition to the two other IOC members Kevan Gosper (Australia) and Chiharu Igaya (Japan), the Commission will be composed of several notable and respected personalities such as Senator Robert Badinter, former president of the French Constitutional Court; Howard Baker, former US Senator; Javier Perez de Cuellar (Peru), former General Secretary of the United Nations and Kurt Furgler, former President of the Swiss Confederation.
