Kenyan Luka Kipkemboi Chelimo on Sunday (23) established a new Danish All-Comers Record when winning Hans Christian Andersen Marathon in Odense in a time of 2:10:37.

The performance by the 34-year-old Kenyan runner was an improvement of the former record – set at the same Marathon in 2010 – with only four seconds.

A group of three Kenyans and one runner from Eritrea passed the first half of the course in 1:05:28, but soon after Luka Kipkemboi Chelimo increased the speed with no one in the group being able to follow him.

"I am very happy for winning here. Today the weather was perfect, not like on Saturday," Chelimo said afterwards with reference to the very cold and rainy conditions that luckily changed on the day of the run.

Chelimo is known for his frequent participation at international Marathons. Last year he completed no less than seven races, winning four of them. His personal best of 2:10:11 was set in 2010 when he finished fifth at the South Korean Chuncheon Marathon (IAAF Silver Label Road Race).
