Imane Merga has won the men’s race at the Cross de Atapuerca for the past four years and will be competing at the IAAF Cross Country Permit meeting in Burgos for a fifth time on 15 November.

The 2011 world cross-country champion has never won by more than one second in Burgos and last year’s victory over fellow Ethiopian Muktar Edris was his closest to date.

Edris will also be returning to this year’s race, having defeated Merga in their three most recent encounters.

Along with Belaynesh Oljira in the women’s race, it means that both defending champions will be competing in Burgos later this month.

The Cross de Atapuerca is the first of the 2015/2016 IAAF Cross Country Permit meetings.
