David Rudisha was presented with the ANOC Award for Best Male Athlete of London 2012 at the first Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Gala Awards Dinner in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday (7).
The Kenyan runner received the award after his astonishing front-running exploits which took him to the 800m gold medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games in a world record time of 1:40.91, winning one of the greatest races ever over two laps of the track.
“Firstly, thank you ANOC for putting on such a wonderful event for the world sport family," said Rudisha. "As athletes, we rely so much on the support of our National Olympic Committees and they are so often the unsung heroes of the Olympic world so thank you for recognising and rewarding all of their hard work as well.
"Thank you to the Kenyan Olympic Committee for all they have done for me over the years and thank you ANOC again for honouring me with this award," he added. "I feel incredibly privileged to receive the first ever ANOC Award for Best Male Athlete at a Summer Games."
