Emil Zatopek voted Czech Olympic champion of the century

Quadruple Olympic champion Emil Zatopek, gold medallist at 10,000m in London 1948 and in Helsinki 1952 (5000m, 10,000m and marathon), has been voted Olympic champion of the century by a panel of 78 experts and journalists of the Czech Republic.


Zatopek, who is now 78, obtained 751 points to take the first place ahead of gymnast Vera Caslavska (57) possessor of seven gold medals, three of which were won in Tokyo 1964 and four in Mexico 1968, who gathered 690 points.

Javelin thrower Jan Zelezny (33), double Olympic champion with victories in Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996, came third in the poll with 476 points, according to the results published in Prague on Monday.
