Organisers of the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix have announced that world indoor record-holder Grant Holloway will contest the 60m hurdles at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Staten Island, New York, on 6 February.

The world 110m hurdles champion will be making his debut appearance at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. Holloway enjoyed a flawless indoor campaign in 2021, culminating with a world indoor 60m hurdles record of 7.29, bettering the mark that had been held by Colin Jackson since 1994.

Holloway’s form continued outdoors, where he blitzed a 12.81 clocking in the 110m hurdles at the US Olympic Trials, the second-fastest time in history, and earned silver at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Two more US champions will be in action in Staten Island on 6 February: Trayvon Bromell and Elle Purrier St Pierre.

Bromell, the 2015 world 100m bronze medallist and 2016 world indoor 60m champion, enjoyed a competitive 2021 season in which he won the US Olympic Trials and posted a world-leading 9.76 in his final race of the year.

Purrier St Pierre, the North American indoor record-holder in the mile, won the two miles at last year’s New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in a North American record of 9:10.28. She went on to win the 1500m at the US Trials and reached the Olympic 1500m final in Tokyo.

Traditionally held in Boston, the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix will once again be temporarily relocated and held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, New York.
