Ratings went through the roof at Eurosport thanks to the channel's extensive coverage of the 8th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Edmonton. The broadcaster registered 67 million different viewers during coverage Edmonton 2001 from 3-12 August.

Record-breaking viewer statistics are nothing new for athletics on Eurosport. Already in Seville 1999, the broadcaster achieved a record audience of 56 million viewers. The figures confirm Eurosport as a pillar of international coverage of athletics.

Concerning the score registered on Eurosport’s channel, Giorgio Reineri, Director of Media and Public Relations of the IAAF, declared: "The ratings achieved by Eurosport are further proof of the general public's great interest in major athletics events and especially, the World Championships. The IAAF is particularly pleased that Edmonton has continued and improved on the success of the previous seven editions of the World Championships and the Eurosport ratings are a worthy recompense for the attention that Eurosport has devoted to the promotion of athletics and which has drawn a large number of fans to the channel."

Also attracting athletics fans throughout Europe, eurosport.com’s websites registered 1 million page impressions per day during the competition.
