MonteCarloThe IAAF is hosting the 2007 IAAF Nutritional Consensus Conference this week in Monte-Carlo (18 - 20 April), bringing together many of the world's leading experts on nutrition.  Discussions will centre on providing advice on the nutritional needs for each of the specific athletic disciplines, as well as other areas such as competition day, travel, illness, and supplements.

IAAF President Lamine Diack said: “It’s been 12 years since the previous IAAF conference on nutrition, so the sport needs to update and stay abreast of the most recent developments.  The IAAF places a priority on the important role of ensuring our athletes have access to the best possible nutritional advice, which allows them to compete to the best of their natural ability.  Equally important is ensuring athletes from all parts of the world, both elite and recreational, maintain a healthy and balanced diet and approach to the sport.”

The conference will produce a number of specific outcomes including a “consensus statement on nutrition”, scientific papers, and most importantly – clear, concise, and easy to read advice for the athletes.

The IAAF would like to warmly thank The Coca-Cola Company for its support that made this conference possible.  The Coca-Cola Company has a long history of scientific support and research into sports nutrition for its sports drinks like Powerade.
