In one of the fastest men's marathons ever, Kenyan Duncan Kibet edged compatriot James Kwambai to win the 29th Fortis Marathon Rotterdam. Both runners were credited with a 2:04:27 clocking, the third fastest performance of all time.

The Fortis Rotterdam Marathon is an IAAF Silver Label Road Race.

Kibet crushed his previous personal best of 2:07:53 set in Milan in November. Kwambai also made significant dent in his previous best of 2:05:36 which he ran in Berlin last September when finishing second behind Haile Gebrselassie's 2:03:59 World record.

Abel Kirui, also from Kenya was third in 2:05:04 and Patrick Makau, running in his debut over the distance, was fourth in 2:06:14.
