Bonface Kirui of Kenya dominated the Vidovdan 10Km Road Race in Brcko, Bosnia and Hercegovina, on Saturday (23).
The Kenyan, leading the men’s field at this IAAF Bronze Label Road Race from start to finish, clocked 29:31. Extremely hot and humid conditions challenged the entire field including the second place finisher Kenyan Elisha Rotich who reached the line in 30:17. Arkadusz Gardzielewski of Poland was third.
The women’s race started quite strong lead by runners from Poland and Serbia, and after four kilometres the lead was taken by Lisa Stublic of Croatia who forged onwards to with in 34:29.
Second and third were Ana Subotic and Sonja Stolic from Serbia, who clocked 35:26 and 35:41 respectively. Agneska Ciolek of Poland and Bosnian Biljana Cvijanovic followed.
The weather challenged the finishing times but not the spectators who turned out to cheer the athletes as they were passed on the streets of Brcko. Those that were supported the most were the more than 6000 kids who took part in age group races through the sunny Saturday afternoon, highlighting this event as in previous years.
