Kryvitski and Yatchenko shine in Minsk

Minsk, BelarusVictories by throwers Pavel Kryvitski and Iryna Yatchenko were among the highlights at the Olympic Champions Trophy meeting in Minsk on Friday (29).

Kryvitski, who hails from Grodno, won the men’s Hammer Throw competition with a season’s best 78.38m. Young Yury Shayunou (77.53m) took the early lead but Kryvitski took control of the competition from the second round.

Yatchenko, the double Olympic bronze medallist and 2003 World champion from Gomel, took the Discus throw with a third round 62.66m effort in her season’s debut. Yatchenko received her winner’s award from former two-time World and 2000 Olympic champion Ellina Zvereva.

Elsewhere, Maryia Smaliachkova won women’s Hammer Throw with a third round 69.36m throw, Mikalai Vasiltsou won the men’s javelin with 69.75m, and Maryna Buksa won the women’s with a 56.68m throw.

The competitions took place at the Dynamo stadium at the Staiki Sport Center.
