Gold MedallistChristopher KOSKEI (KEN)
"We had a pre-race plan. By that of course I mean all four kenyans. It was quite simple, we were to work together as a team until 200 meters from the finish and then it was every man for himself. As the final 200 meter point came close I was aware that both Barmasai and the german (Kallabis) were close by. I knew the german was very strong in the last 400 meters and I know the strenghts of Barmasai. I waited expecting either of these to make a break for the line. However, there was no reaction. So I just collected my thoughts mentally and concentrated on the finish line. The result you know!
Silver Medallist - BOIT KIPKETER, Wilson (KEN)
"I feel wery good because I didn't expect to be in top three since I haven't had a very good season. I had an injury in 1997 in my achilles tendon. It was a shame not to achieve a clean sweep. That was what we came here for. The heat really didn't affect my performance. In fact I like to run when it is hot. This stadium is fantastic. I hope to come back next year to Seville meeting to break the world record."
Bronze Medallist - Ali EZZINE (MAR)
"At the beginning I took the pace of the kenyans. For the rest of the race I had a plan already two days ago. If the pace was to be slow I would just follow but with a fast race I wanted to attack in the front. Already 600 meters before the finish line I was certain to be in the podium. I am very proud of my bronze because no other Moroccoan has ever got a medal in steeplechase. This medal pleases me personally, too, because last year I was operated after my knee hit the steeple in Rome.
