Gold MedallistKIPKETER, Wilson (DEN)
"Okay it probably didn't look like it on television but I knew I was going to catch Sepeng. The only trouble was that time was running out and I didn't know if I would make it before the line. In the first lap there was a lot of pushing and I lost my rhythm. I didn't know if I had won until I saw it on the giant stadium screen. I'm now going to party with the other Danes. This medal is worth the same as all my others"
Silver Medallist - SEPENG, Hezekiel (RSA)
"I wanted to stay with Kipketer and then hopefully head him before the home straight. I thought that if I was a head and pushed hard I might get Kipketer into trouble by putting him under pressure. My aim is now to improve my personal best and with that achieved take the gold in Sydney next year."
Bronze Medallist - SAID-GUERNI, Djabir (ALG)
"I'm new in these high level surroundings. I was 19 years when I saw Kipketer win in Athens (1997). I decided then that I wanted to run like him. I started running like this in the earlier rounds and it has paid off for me again in the final."
