IAAF World Athlete of the Year Ashton Eaton will warm up for the defence of his world indoor heptathlon title by contesting two events at the NYRR Millrose Games on 20 February.

Ahead of his appearance at the IAAF World Indoor Championships Portland 2016, which will be staged between 17-20 March, the world record holder in the indoor discipline is expected to compete in the long jump and the 60m hurdles at the iconic New York venue, The Armory.

“I’m excited to be back at the Millrose Games, which will be an integral meet in setting myself up for success at the World Indoor Championships and eventually the Olympic Games in Rio,” said Eaton, the world and Olympic decathlon champion.

“The Millrose Games is one of my favourite competitions in the world. It's such an intimate meet with a crowd almost right on top of you creating an incredible atmosphere that brings out the best in us athletes.

“It is one of the top opportunities to compete against the best athletes in the world on US soil, which is a privilege.”

Eaton ran the 60m hurdles at the 2015 NYRR Millrose Games, when he ran the world-class time of 7.51 to just finish third behind his compatriots Aleec Harris and 2013 world 110m hurdles champion David Oliver.

The mark placed him equal sixth on the 2015 world list for the event.

Organisers for the 109th edition of the NYRR Millrose Games also announced the participation of two classy Canadian athletes on Thursday.

World high jump champion Derek Drouin will compete in his specialist event and sprinter Andre DeGrasse, who won the 100m bronze medal in the Chinese capital, will race in the 60m.
