Moroccan Jalal Noureddine (2:14:30) and Romanian Alena Tecuta (2:43:49), respectively won the men’s and women’s divisions of the 17th Marrakech International Marathon.
Jalal, 22, succeeded Rachid Bouremdane as champion, taking a five second win over compatriot Maudouji Hamou (2:14:35), with third place going to the Spaniard, Ziani Zouak (2:14:50) who is Moroccan by origin.
Tecuta making a comeback to the sport circled the course in a time of 2:43:49, finishing the women's race ahead of Moroccans Mhih Amina (2:45:45) and Naghmouch Hafida (2:49:38).
The 6000 athletes from across 17 countries in today’s race was a record for the event.
Morocco and Kenya were the winners in the half marathon via Mourad Maaroufit (1:01:43) and Caroline Kiptoo (1:10:01) .
