OsakaThe Swedish Athletics Federation announced today that Triple Jump Olympic champion Christian Olsson sustained an injury during a training session in the team’s training camp in Marugame, last night.

27-year-old Olsson injured his left hamstring, the same injury he sustained at the IAAF Golden League meeting in Rome on 13 July, and is therefore not going to take part in the 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics here in Osaka.

An IAAF Golden League Jackpot winner in 2004 and the reigning Olympic champion, Olsson won the 2003 World Championships in Paris as well as two editions of the European Championships. The World Indoor record co-holder, Olsson missed the whole 2005 season with an ankle injury which was triggered on his first jump in the Athens Olympic final. He underwent three surgeries to repair the damage in 2005 and another one in 2006.

The third best jumper of 2007 with his 17.56m performance at the Paris Saint Denis Golden League meeting, Olsson was expected to be in contention for a medal here in Osaka after he missed the Helsinki World Championships through injury.
