Olympic 400m gold medallist Cathy Freeman will establish a foundation aimed at attracting corporate sponsorship to help Australia's Aboriginal population, The Australian newspaper reported Friday.

Freeman, an Aboriginal and Australia's most high-profile track athlete, would set up the Catherine Freeman Foundation at the suggestion of global sports star management specialists, IMG.

IMG has also established a similar foundation on behalf of American golfing giant Tiger Woods.

"We don't think it would be too difficult to get 10 corporations to come on board and donate 100,000 dollars each," IMG Australia managing director Martin Jolly told the paper. "It should not be too difficult to raise millions of dollars."

Freeman became the first Aborigine to win an individual Olympic gold medal at the Sydney Games.

She is an icon among indigenous Australians.
